Córdoba launches its Dry Port: logistical efficiency and a new frontier for international trade

The inauguration of Córdoba's first Dry Port marks a turning point for the region's exporting SMEs. It brings lower costs, increased agility, and new risks that necessitate tailored insurance solutions.

A new strategic hub for Argentine logistics

On July 28, 2025, the Córdoba Chamber of Foreign Trade (CaCEC) and the ProCórdoba Agency officially inaugurated the province's first Dry Port. Located within CaCEC's Comprehensive Services Center for International Trade, this new logistical hub enables the consolidation, storage, and dispatch of cargo directly from Córdoba, eliminating reliance on Buenos Aires.

This infrastructure will enable over 800 Córdoba-based companies to export and import with enhanced efficiency, thereby integrating more competitively into global trade.

The Dry Port will feature an 18,000 m² Primary Customs Zone, 5,500 m² of provisional storage facilities, and a capacity to store between 120 and 140 containers. Additionally, it includes a digital system for managing operations from any device and a container yard spanning over 10,000 m².

What is a Dry Port and why is it a game-changer?

A Dry Port is an inland intermodal terminal that functions as a customs extension of maritime or air ports. It allows for customs procedures, container consolidation, cargo storage, and connectivity with shipping lines, all from a central inland location.

This model significantly reduces logistical lead times, minimizes unnecessary transfers, and contributes to decongesting transportation routes and port terminals.

All of this demands coverage that is not limited to a single segment of the journey, but rather accompanies the entire chain door-to-door.

Tangible Benefits for Córdoba-Based Companies

  • Reduction in Logistical Costs: An estimated 25% saving on transfers is projected, with a total impact exceeding USD 20 million for the private sector within the first five years, as stated by Marcelo Bechara, President of CaCEC.
  • Operational Agility: By circumventing procedures in Buenos Aires, companies gain both time and predictability in their international trade operations.
  • Sustainability: Reduced reliance on long-haul routes contributes to an estimated 50% reduction in the regional international trade carbon footprint.

New Risks, New Coverage Solutions

The emergence of a logistical hub of this magnitude also introduces new insurable challenges. At Hanseatica, we support this evolution with coverage solutions specifically designed for inland logistics and multimodal international trade:

  • Cargo Insurance:  Door-to-door protection for land, sea, river, or air transits. Ideal for operations from Córdoba to international ports.
  • Container Insurance: Protection against damage, theft, or loss during storage or transit. Essential for consolidation centers such as the Dry Port.
  • Customs Bond Insurance: Guarantees required by AFIP and the General Customs Directorate for the clearance of goods. A key ally for logistical operators and customs brokers.
  • Logistics Operator Liability:  Covers third-party damages incurred during cargo handling in warehouses, loading/unloading operations, and transportation.
